Flower-Laying Ceremony at Monument to Heroes – Baltic Fleet Sailors

On the eve of the 69-th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, on May 8, 2014, the North-West Basin Branch employees traditionally participated in the grand rally and flower-laying ceremony at the monument to the Heroes – sailors of the Baltic Shipping Company and the Leningrad port.

Sergey Pylin, director of the branch, congratulated the rally participants with the great holiday – Victory Day.

The monument to Heroes – Baltic Fleet Sailors was unveiled in the park in front of the entrance to the Leningrad port in 1989. It was fixed up in honor of one of the most important events of the Great Patriotic War – the heroic Tallinn transition of the Baltic Fleet on August 28-29, 1941. Then, during the evacuation of Tallinn defenders, 200 vessels were breaking out to Leningrad through the fairway mined by the enemy under the fire of the enemy aviation. According to various estimates, during the transition from 15 to 18 thousand people were killed – military, Navy civilians, Army fighters and citizens.
