Icebreaker assistance season starts in the seaport of Arkhangelsk and on approaches to it

The first icebreaker assistance in the winter navigation 2023/24 took place in the water area of the seaport of Arkhangelsk. On November 22, the Kapitan Chadaev icebreaker of FSUE “Rosmorport” provided assistance for the Jamrat tanker, proceeding to the seaport of Arkhangelsk.

Stable ice formation in the seaport began on November 17, and by November 21, a solid ice cover was formed. At present, the ice in the seaport waters is 10-20 cm thick.

By order of the captain of the seaport of Arkhangelsk, the beginning of the icebreaker assistance season 2023/24 in the seaport water area was announced from November 17. Also, by order of the captain, an icebreaking assistance headquarters was created, and representatives of the FSUE “Rosmorport” Arkhangelsk Branch became part of it. If necessary, captains of icebreakers providing assistance in the water area of the seaport of Arkhangelsk will be involved in the activities of the headquarters.

In addition to the Kapitan Chadaev icebreaker, one more port icebreaker of the enterprise – the Kapitan Evdokimov icebreaker - will be involved in operations in the water area of the seaport of Arkhangelsk in the current winter navigation season. The icebreakers Dikson and Novorossiysk will assist vessels in the White Sea water area and on approaches to the seaports of Kandalaksha and Vitino this season.

FSUE “Rosmorport” provides icebreaking assistance for vessels in the waters of 16 freezing seaports of Russia and on approaches to them. Currently, the icebreaking fleet of the enterprise consists of 33 icebreakers and ice-class tugs.
