On 4 January 2015 the regional heritage asset building of the “Matsesta” Marine Passenger Terminal was solemnly opened after restoration.

The solemn ceremony of red ribbon cutting was performed by Minister of Transport of Russia M.Y. Sokolov, Sochi City Manager A.N. Pakhomov, Deputy Head of Rosmorrechflot V.N. Vovk and General Director of FSUE “Rosmorport” A.V. Tarasenko.

Built in 1936 the “Matsesta” port station is one of Sochi’s architectural landmarks, which was an important transport hub up to 1980s. Since late 1980s the architectural heritage building was not used according to its original purpose, which led to its partial destruction and loss of architectural fragments.

The restoration of the building was completed in December 2014. Being the owner of the building since 2005, FSUE “Rosmorport” conducted a set of restoration works in order to reconstitute the lost fragments and recover the original look of the architectural ensemble.

Both the facades of the building and its interiors were restored. According to the original project by architect S.I. Voropayev the mosaic designs of the floor covering were recreated, the colonnade of the building and the domes top covering were restored, more than 250 m2 of stairs and landings were cladded by natural granite, about 800 banisters were reconstituted and installed, 1000 m2 of stucco pieces of the building facades and 600 m2 of interiors were renovated.

The honored guests of the opening ceremony duly appreciated the high professionalism of the foremen. After the capital (restoration) repairs the Minister of Transport of Russia awarded a letter of commendation to the following employees of the general design contractor LLC Kuban Monuments: Deputy Director – Head of Repairs and Restoration Division B.V. Kurlik, Head of Architects Group N.N. Podbeltseva, as well as the following employees of the general subcontractor LLC RSK Vozrozhdeniye: Director S.G. Nikhayev and Project Manager V.N. Antonov.

Besides, for successful and timely completion of the capital (restoration) repairs of the “Matsesta” Marine Passenger Terminal regional heritage asset building the Head of Rosmorrechflot awarded letters of commendation to Counsellor of the FSUE “Rosmorport” General Director S.U. Garanov and Chief Specialist of the Capital Construction and Repairs Department of the Sochi Branch A.V. Dashkevich, as well as to the team of LLC Restoration-Construction Company “Vozrozhdeniye”. The award was presented on behalf of Head of Rosmorrechflot A.A. Davydenko by his deputy V.N. Vovk.

In the name of the FSUE “Rosmorport” General Director the letters of commendation for active participation in the reconstruction of the building were presented to FSUE “Rosmorport” Sochi Branch Director R.V. Agafonov and Chief Engineer of the FSUE “Rosmorport” Sochi Branch K.L. Sirotyuk.

During the solemn opening ceremony the guests could also visit a photo exhibition representing the main activities of FSUE “Rosmorport”, and the exhibition of the Distinguished Artist of Russia, member of the Union of Artists of the USSR and Russia, Honorary Member of the Russian Academy of Arts Arthur Skripnikov, whose works were created according to a unique technology of enamel painting by means of burning.
