Training vessel Khersones with scarlet sails called at a roadstead in the water area of the RCC "Orlyonok" in honor of the birthday of the children's center

Today, on July 12, 2021, the All-Russian Children's Center "Orlyonok" celebrates its 61st birthday. On the eve of the holiday, the training frigate Khersones entered the water area of RCC "Orlyonok". The legendary three-masted sailboat with scarlet sails became a real gift from FSUE "Rosmorport" for 3 400 Russian children vacationing and studying in the camps of the center.

The construction of the camp began in the late 50s of the last century, and already in 1960 the children's center "Orlyonok" received the first children and almost immediately became a center of attraction for active and talented children and teenagers from all over the country.

In honor of the celebration of birthday, observation sea excursions by boat, allowing to view the sailboat from close range, were organized for children and employees of the children's center. Training vessel Khersones is 109 meters long, and the height of the grotto mast is 51 meters. The vessel is controlled by 26 sails, which the sailboat team sets in ten minutes – in order to do this, 30 people climb each mast. Two powerful diesel engines allow the vessel to maneuver in the seaport, as well as go in windless weather.

The winners of the "My Port" project were also able to take photos against the background of the frigate, observe the onboard life and greet the crew, wishing good luck and seven feet under the keel to the sailors. The children of the "Naporistiy" crew note that the majestic figure of the vessel rising up over the waves is an unforgettable show that impresses even those who see it for the first time.

It is planned that the vessel will stay in the water area until the closure of the 7th thematic season of the RCC "Orlyonok", and on July 13 the sailboat will leave the water area, heading to Sevastopol, where the Khersones Sailboat Cup regatta will be held on July 19 as part of the Extreme Crimea 2021 festival.

The training vessel Khersones is one of the three training three-masted frigates of FSUE "Rosmorport". The vessel was designed by the Polish engineer Sigmund Horen based on the prototype of sailing vessels of the early twentieth century. The training vessel Khersones gained worldwide reputation due to the fact that it circled Cape Horn, still considered an ominous place among sailors, under sails with engines switched off. Later, the vessel set another record, circling the Cape of Good Hope – among sailors, this trip is also considered the first-class performance.
