Representatives of the Kaliningrad Department of the North-Western Basin Branch take part in the 5th International Scientific and Practical Conference “Issues of Study and Preservation of Maritime Heritage”

The 5th International Scientific and Practical Conference “Issues of Study and Preservation of Maritime Heritage” was held at the premises of the Museum of the World Ocean in Kaliningrad on October 5-9, 2021 within the Year of Science and Technology in Russia.

The conference participants represented different regions of Russia, from St. Petersburg and Moscow to Kamchatka. The participant organizations included scientific institutes, museums, research and production associations.

During the conference, participants presented reports on all areas of work with maritime heritage objects - from underwater archeology to vessels preservation, wildlife reserves activity, maritime education and interagency interaction.

The FSUE “Rosmorport” North-Western Basin Branch acted as an official media partner of the conference.

Nikolay Mamenko, head of the commercial department of the Kaliningrad Department of the North-Western Basin Branch, presented a report at the conference.

The branch’s representative informed the audience of the main directions of FSUE “Rosmorport” activities, its goals and purposes, its activity in the field of the maritime heritage preservation, of the events held by the enterprise dedicated to the education of young people and the popularization of maritime professions.

Nikolay Mamenko noted that in order to preserve maritime heritage, the Kaliningrad department of the branch has organized a permanent historical installation dedicated to the history of the creation and development of the Kaliningrad Maritime Canal, which this year celebrated its 120th anniversary.

During his report, Nikolay Mamenko spoke in detail about the My Port project of early vocational guidance of children that has been implemented by FSUE “Rosmorport”. The training program is aimed at popularizing maritime and port professions, giving career guidance and teaching children and adolescents on the glorious maritime traditions. Within this program, children learn to sail, navigate by stars, get acquainted with the functions of personnel on various vessels, acquire primary maritime skills in an interactive form. For more than 5 years the project has been in action, more than 800 children have participated in it.
