Deputy Director of the North-Western Basin Branch of FSUE "Rosmorport" – Head of the Kaliningrad Department Andrei Moshkov took part in the online conference "4th Entrepreneurs Day: Russia in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (Germany)" in the section "Transport and logistics, use new opportunities" as part of the business program of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

This conference is a platform for economic and scientific interaction of the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern region (Germany) with the regions of the North-West of Russia.

Andrei Moshkov gave a presentation in which he addressed a number of issues related to the capabilities of the seaport of Kaliningrad to service multimodal transportation in order to study issues of its development and increase its capacity, during which he informed the conference participants about the activities of FSUE "Rosmorport" on the development of the Ust-Luga-Baltiysk-Mukran (Germany) railway ferry service and container transportation on the maritime section of the New Silk Road project.

According to the results of 4 months of 2021, the volume of transit container traffic from China to Europe through the seaport of Kaliningrad using multimodal service reached a tenfold increase compared to the same period of the last year. If for the whole of 2020 the volume of transit traffic was a little more than 29 thousand TEU, then in only 4 months of this year the volume of transit traffic on this route exceeded 24 thousand TEU. The active growth of interest in the service by customers continues, and the geography of transportation is constantly expanding. Today, transportation of cargoes to the seaports of Germany, Great Britain, Scandinavia is implemented on a constant basis.

Another point of growth in multimodal transportation opportunities may be the resumption of the Baltiysk-Mukran (Germany) ferry service. As part of ensuring transport accessibility in the Kaliningrad Region, FSUE "Rosmorport" is implementing a project to build two new railway ferries. Today, there is considered the restoration of direct rail ferry to the seaport of Mukran (Germany) after putting into commercial operation of these vessels.

Participants in the plenary discussion also discussed issues of digitalization in the transport and logistics sector, environmental aspects of the development of the transport industry, new and promising multimodal transport routes.
