Icebreaker Festival in St. Petersburg

In St. Petersburg during the period from 3 to 4 May, 2014 for the first time ever the Icebreaker Festival was held with the participation of the five working icebreakers of the North-West Basin Branch – Sankt-Peterburg, Moskva, Mudeyug, Ivan Kruzenshtern and Kapitan Zarubin, as well as the Krasin icebreaker-museum of the World Ocean Museum Branch.

The North-West Basin Branch icebreakers were moored along the English Embankment and the Lieutenant Schmidt Embankment.

The solemn opening of the festival at 11 am on May 3 was accompanied by a long-drawn whistle all the five icebreakers heard by all the residents and visitors of the St. Petersburg center.  

During the two days the North-West Basin Branch vessels were opened for anybody for free. The crew members, as well as the State University of Marine and River Fleet named after Admiral S.O. Makarov students were on duty on the decks of the vessels ready to answer the most complex questions of visitors on the structure and functioning of the vessels of this type at any moment.

The total amount of visitors of the branch icebreakers during the festival is more than 17 thousand residents and quests of St. Petersburg.
