Meeting on 2018-2019 winter navigation in the seaports of Astrakhan and Olya

A regional coordination meeting was held in the FSUE “Rosmorport” Astrakhan Branch on April 11, 2019 to sum up the results of the 2018-2019 winter navigation in Russian seaports of the north of the Caspian Sea and on the approaches toward it and discuss tasks set for the spring-summer period.

The meeting was chaired by head of FSBI “The Administration of Caspian Sea Ports” Magomed Abdulatipov and also involved acting director of the FSUE “Rosmorport” Astrakhan Branch Alexei Svyatsky, representatives of the Ministry of Industry and Transport of the Astrakhan region, FSBI “The Baltic Sea Basin Rescue and Emergency Department”, the Caspian flotilla of Russia’s Defense Ministry Navy, the Border Guard Department of Russia’s Federal Security Service for the Republic of Kalmykia and the Astrakhan region, the Southern Directorate of the Federal Air Navigation Service (Rosaeronavigatsia), the Astrakhan Directorate of the Federal State Institution Regional Rescue and Emergency Base “The Southern Air Rescue Center”, workers of shipping and stevedoring companies.

The participants in the meeting discussed the results of implementing the measures aimed at ensuring navigation safety and mooring in the water areas of the seaports of Astrakhan and Olya and on the approaches toward them. They considered issues to assure rescue and emergency readiness in the seaports and the results of the activities of shipping and stevedoring companies.

Alexei Svyatsky told the audience about the results of icebreaker support in the water areas of the seaports of Astrakhan and Olya and in the water area of the Volga Caspian Marine Shipping Canal. For the period of the winter navigation the icebreakers, the Kapitan Chechkin, the Kapitan Metsaik and the Kapitan Bukaev, have provided support for 499 vessels. In addition, the head of the branch spoke about measures taken to ensure pilotage and vessel tracking management in the period of 2019 spring and summer navigation. Special attention was paid to the readiness of  the dredging equipment and the commencement of dredging operations in the water area of the Volga Caspian Marine Shipping Canal.
