Kapitan Metsayk 30th Anniversary

On 28 November 2014 the Astrakhan Branch held a festive event commemorated to the 30th anniversary of the Kapitan Metsayk icebreaker.

The vessel is a leading diesel-electrical icebreaker of river-sea navigation and is designed for all types of icebreaker assistance, ice escorts, towage of large tonnage caravans, emergency and rescue works.

Kapitan Metsayk is the sixth of eight river icebreakers of 1191 series, which were built by order of USSR in 1984 in Helsinki at the Wartsila shipyard. It was named after Constantine Metsayk, a ship master instructor and drafter of the Yenisei river pilot chart.

The Astrakhan Branch management congratulated the icebreaker crew on the anniversary and presented memorable gifts, including the special “Fair seas” birthday cake.

At present the Kapitan Metsayk icebreaker is a part of the Astrakhan Branch icebreaker fleet. It is completely ready to perform important tasks on assisting caravans of vessels going to the Astrakhan and Olya seaports during winter navigation 2014-2015.
