Arkhangelsk Branch Fleet Replenishment

New Kapitan Shershnev ice class mark boat joined the Arkhangelsk Branch fleet.

The vessel of the 02781 project was constructed by OAO “GRAND” (Saint Petersburg) and in September 2016 was transferred to the branch.

The mark boat, which on October 18, 2016 had arrived in the seaport of Arkhangelsk from the seaport Big Port Saint Petersburg, became the fourth vessel of the Arkhangelsk branch navigation means and the 17th vessel of the whole Branch fleet.

The mark boat deck equipment includes loader crane with lifting capacity 3.5 tons and a winch with a pulling force 5 tons, which are able to provide installation and removal of average sea buoys of “C-3” or “MB-780” type, equipped with anchoring devices with anchors weighing up to 3 tons. Dimensions of the boat decks allow, if necessary, to carry out maintenance of average sea buoys or small sea buoys of “BMM-P” type on board.

Ice class of the vessel allows it to operate at temperatures up to -25 C ° and perform independent navigation in conditions of broken ice with thickness up to 70 cm.

With Kapitan Shershnev mark boat the Arkhangelsk Branch will carry out installation and removal of floating aids to navigation on the approaches and water areas of the seaports of Arkhangelsk, Naryan-Mar, Onega and Sabetta.

Kapitan Shershnev mark boat was named after Viktor Shershnev, an Honored Worker of Transport of Russia, which in the period from 1988 to 2001 served as the captain of the seaport of Arkhangelsk.
After graduation from the Arkhangelsk Naval College and start of his career as a sailor in the Northern Shipping Company, he went through all the stages of piloting, worked as a master on various vessels of the Northern Shipping Company. Captain Shershnev was the first, who mastered a difficult line of transportation of ore from Dudinka to Kandalaksha, participated in many Arctic voyages. As one of the most experienced and respected captains, he awarded the Order of Labor Red Banner, “Honorary Worker of Marine Fleet” badge and many other awards and honorable distinctions.
